#GivingTuesday is on Tuesday December 1st! We want you to donate money to the Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends that day. Of course the money you give to the Foundation & Friends buys books and DVDs. But it also funds other wonderful things. In the days leading up to December 1st, we’re going to highlight a number of the other programs and items that your donations buy for the library.
Libraries are expanding what they lend beyond books. And, as we all know, STEM skills are important in today’s world. That’s why we lend out Chromebooks and hold programming classes.
Recently, the Foundation & Friends helped the library purchase some Arduino starter kits. What’s an Arduino? Well…
Arduino is an open-source platform used for building electronics projects. Arduino consists of both a physical programmable circuit board (often referred to as a microcontroller) and a piece of software …. that runs on your computer, used to write and upload computer code to the physical board. Arduinos will allow our patrons to practice their hardware skills by building small-scale electronics, but also their software skills by programming the machine in C++.
This is a great way to expand the collection beyond books, and we’re proud to have helped the library buy them. We couldn’t do it without your donations.
Please donate on December 1st. If you donate more than $150 that day, your name will be entered into a drawing for a football from the 49ers signed by Reggie Bush. Thanks for your support!
