Disneyland, McDonalds and the Mission Library…

Do the three have anything in common?

All born in 1955 and still going strong…

Stop by the West Wing of City Hall and see the eye-catching display in the trophy case honoring Mission Library!  It has striking pictures of the library  over the years, including Ms. Klune, the first City Librarian, and nuggets of information about life in the 1950s that will delight trivia buffs. Here’s a sampling:

  • How much did it cost to build Mission Library in 1955?
  • Which movie won the Oscar for best picture in 1955?
  • How much did a gallon of gas cost in 1955?

Answers: $87,626 (lowest bidder); On the Waterfront (starring Marlon Brando): 23 cents/gallon

Thanks to the talented Bob Byrd for putting together this great display and to Mary Boyle and Mary Hanel for the historical  photos and information
